I saw a puddle under my hot tub today and noticed that seal by the heater that was leaking. I had to partially drain it to undo the coupling to check out the seal and found the gasket underneath had a bit of a cut in it. Already ordered a replacement to fix it, but there was also a bunch of 'goop' in there. Is this pipe dope or something similar? What should I use when I install the replacement gaskets?

For anyone with a MasterSpa, the replacement gasket is X801765. When I ordered the replacement, the website had some o-ring lubricant in the 'frequently bought with', which was FS-8500, and is called o-ring lube. Should I order that too, or use pipe dope from the plumbing area of the hardware store?

Thanks.

“Pipe dope” is generally for threaded pipe connections and “lube” is generally for gaskets.
