Hello everyone! I am new to the forum! I have really enjoyed reading many of your posts and viewing many of your beautiful pool builds! My husband and I are hopefully going to be starting the pool building process very soon. Right now we are trying to finalize the shape of our pool. We have narrowed it down to two choices: Choice 1: 22'X34'X40' Lagoon OR Choice 2: Mountain Lake Oasis 24'X44'

I would love your opinions on which one you would choose and why! For those of you who may have build a lagoon or mountain lake oasis, what are some things you like about your pool? What are some things you don't like about your pool? If you had it to do over again, would you? Is one more expensive in monthly upkeep than the other or do you think they are about the same? Any advice you can give this newbie to pools would be GREAT!

My husband and I have two children who are 3 and 6. We would like a decent sized shallow end. That is what first drew us to the lagoon. However, from the drawing renderings of the lagoon it looks like there isn't a very large space from the shallow wall to where it starts sloping down into the deep. Unfortunately we do not know anyone in our area who has a lagoon shaped pool that we can go look at.

Here are a few pics of the drawings and a few pics of what the final product may possibly look like:

I'll say welcome and give you a bump...maybe one of the mods will move you to the 'Under Construction' forum where building, planning, ideas are bounced around a lot, good folks over there.

'Just Getting Started' forum is usually reserved for pool maintenance, care and panicking adults who are about to jump off the deep end trying to upkeep their pool

Maybe send a Mod a PM.

I'll say this ... when we were trying to decide what we wanted, our pool rep asked the best question, "What are you going to use the pool for?" The use of the pool (lounging, swimming laps, games, amount of people) all drove us to pick a specific shape - for us anyways. In any case, both of those look like very nice options. Good luck!

I like the shape of the second one - (the one that shows a diving board in the picture) - no strong opinions either way - I just like the way it looks!

Good morning! It is so ironic you are choosing between these two b/c we did the same. We actually ordered the mountain lake, l loved the fluid feel and the curves. However, we were concerned about he size of our low end, b/c we added a sizable tanning ledge. So for us this was the factor that switched us, our pool builder recommended we switch to lagoon and put the tanning ledge in one curve so the other curve was free and we had more usable space in the low end. If I wasn't doing the tanning ledge I would go with the other pool. My pool takes up ALOT Of my yard, keep that in mind. Take a look at my build to see what I am talking about. Thanks, good luck and enjoy whichever you choose

now that we got you in the UC forum i'll comment:

you've already made your biggest decision and that is diving vs. play pool...looks like you are set for diving. if you use the search function, you should come up with 2 or 3 lagoon style pool builds that have been documented and came out very nice. as far as the maintenance cost and upkeep, the pool with the more gallonage is obviously going to be more costly however minimal that will be...I definitely would not make my final decision on that alone.

me personally...I love the Lagoon look, the picture with the green chairs on the deck...dk if I'm referencing the correct one. the methods taught here on TFP, the BBB method and electrical efficiencies in VS & 2 spd pumps will negate any advantage over the other. good luck!

I like the big shallow end one. Some of the biggest pools on here are vinyl because the cost differential allows for the larger size. If it fits well, go for it.

I vote Mountain Lake design. (Mountain Lake Drawing Mountain Lake Lagoon Drawing Lagoon) It just looks so appealing and should give you some real interest that is different. I like all the deck and water "real estate" for the entertaining that is sure to come, when we all show up!

Anyone building a "Mountain Lake" or "Mountain Pond" pool shape?

Hello everyone! My husband and I have decided we like the Mountain Lake (aka Mountain pond) shaped pool the best. We are hopefully about to start the building process. However, I cannot find many pictures of this shape on the internet with it finished. I would LOVE to see pictures of some of your builds if you have done this design!
