Jandy Energy Filter - what is it and do I need it?

New pool owner here. I discovered a small leak where the bowl connects on this Jandy Energy Filter. It’s a small very slow leak but I did some research and it seems these are specifically for an old Jandy Ray Vac cleaner that I don’t even have. Should I bother replacing this or just bypass it entirely since I don’t use the vacuum?

Or just replace the Oring on the clear bowl. Do you still have a pressure side pool cleaner? If so that energy filter can act as a pre-filter before whatever screen is in the feed line.

I’m actually feeling silly now but based on the second pic the valve for this is already off right? Would that indicate the valve gate is what need replacing?

If you are no longer using the pressure side line to the pool the cheapest action is to cut the pipe before and after the filter and glue a cap on.

Or rebuild the valve.

I'm thinking to do this because the filter doesn't stop anything and I'm constantly clearing the screen before my vacuum. Were these necessary when installed? Baffles me why we have them

Depends what pressure cleaner.

Polaris wall fitting has a filter screen in it to prevent debris from getting to the cleaner.
