Is it time to get a new IntelliChlor?

My IC40 stopped working a few weeks ago according to my alerts. I have finally had a chance to start troubleshooting but I have a feeling that it is in fact dead.

On my ScreenLogic app I am getting the Chlorinator: Communication Lost alert
I have no lights on the IC40
The cord does not show any damage
I have 41 VDC coming from the SWG card out to the IC40

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything a few times now and have reset my EasyTouch a few times as well.

Is this one a goner? Is there anything else I should try?

It looks like I'm in purgatory at the moment since the OG IC40 is discontinued and it doesn't look like anyone has the new PLUS40 available yet.

55,

I'm sorry for your loss...

With 41 volts out of the surge card and no lights on the cell, it sounds like a bad cell...

The only thing that I would do is to ensure that the connector where the cell plugs into the EasyTouch is good.. We have seen several where the pins have burned completely in two..

If the cell has no lights, it can only be two things.. one, the 40 VDC is not getting to the cell, or two, the cell is bad.

Thanks,

Jim R.

How big is the pool? The IC60s are on sale right now too and get 50% more lifespan for less than that in upcharge.

The date on the sticker is 2/21/2019

Pool size is 26,000 gallons
A little over 6 years in sunny CA is a good life for a cell rated 1.5X more than your pool volume.

If you averaged 2.5 ppm for 200 days a year, the cell produced 789 jugs worth of 10% liquid chlorine. The IC40 should produce about 700 jugs worth.

Something to consider is upgrading to the IC60. For $300 more, it will last 50% longer and the ROI works in your favor. Lord knows how stupid expensive chlorine of any form will be by then. It won't be cheap. I can promise you that. Lol.

As I get older the time between repairs gets shorter in my mind. I'm think it went in a year or two ago, but yeah six years it definitely paid for itself and then some.

If I jump to the IC60, do I just dial back the chlorine percentage? This one only feeds the pool.

Yup. It creates 50% more chlorine leading to less runtime. Less runtime = more lifespan. Imagine a larger gas tank increasing your vehicle range, but you get a steep discount on the extra fuel. Your 6 year cell would last 9 years in theory.
