Hello All,
I just had a pool installed last year and am loving it. I am also a big geek and love automation. LOL. I was at a friends place and he had built some DIY sprinklers and laminar and they were awesome. He built the system for around 100 dollars and if he went with the kits the pool shop was selling, he would have paid 5x that much. So now I want to do the same but one up him.
I have a Hayward Prologic controller and have 4 spare 24v Aux relays I want to have the valve run by pushing the button the on the remote. My issue is that the valve and actuators will run me around 200 bucks. Way more then I want to spend for a pool sprinkler and overkill for a sprinkler. So I was thinking could I use a Rain Bird Irrigation valve instead of the actuator and pool valve? They both use 24V and the power consumption is within the relay range. I can get a rainbird valve for 40bucks. Since I don't need a 1.5 in line like my return jets I don't see why I have to use the Hayward ones.
Has anyone ever used an Irrigation valve in a pool set up before?
To me the valves look the same on the specs just seems like you are paying for the word Hayward and it is designed for pools. I could be wrong.
P.S. I am an electrician and my best friend is a pipe fitter.
Thanks
