Cartridge filters, and DE filters, are typically better at trapping fine particulates. Iron precipitates can be quite small but the filter fiber has been known to help capture it. The problem is typically one gets iron scaling everywhere and so it’s hard to control it to the extent of getting it to all go into the filter.
