Intex skimmer basket on Bestway pool

Had an old Intex skimmer basket that fits perfectly on the Bestway inlet piece. Both pools had a 1500 gallon filter pump but the Best way splits it between two inlets where the old Intex only had one, so it skims at "half strength".
Does that half strength skimming even help or am I doing more harm than good? Do notice a lot of bugs and whatnot gather around the skimmer basket rim but maybe it's not strong enough to get them to the filter, so seeing if anyone else has tried this before.
Thanks all.

Then one less thing to plug every time I change the filter too 😀
but that's part of my problem, not sure if two intakes the one under water and the one on the skimmer is better/worse/indifferent than full skimmer with the other plugged, or just using it as it came with both intakes under water. Or I could be way overthinking this, just don't want to do something that'll turn my pool green 😀

Here's what I did. As I recall the skimmer was not really effective with the other port open. Are you using the "heater" pad? Use one pump for the skimmer and one for the "heater". Note that having only one inlet to a pump is now considered a safety hazard. (But then mosquitos laying eggs on an improperly skimmed surface is also a hazard.)

Note the steel C-clamp supplementing the plastic clamp.

It’s not strong suction at all even with a clearly capable pump when you use 2 suction ports whether one for skimmer or not. This changed to dual suction ports in USA 2017 due to drowning girl got hair caught in suction port. I dont have small kids. I cut my liner to use intex large pool fittings it’s still legal n other countries. I have preventatives for children not getting in my pool as well such as lock on gate, driveway sensor that alarms if anyone goes thru gate. Lot of outside cameras etc remove ladder when we aren’t in pool. I’m careful. And I plug one suction using the rubber hat thing I just poke it from inside of pool into the opening. And I forget it then I trace the nut that screws onto large pool fitting with sharpie marker making it so the hole is around the rubber thing sticking out of pool wall for suction port and clean water inlet and I use large fittings plunger valves and screw on hoses to my 2500 gallon per hour pump I get from academy sports for $129.99. Having bestway steel pro max I found intex skimmer not to want to stay put being that the piece mounts to top rail is made for round not oval like bestway top rail is as well as Coleman so finally saw flowclear made by bestway mak similar skimmer but is oval shaped for top rail fits great and has ring that slips into slot turn and lock to keep basket and blue float from running off. The hose, adapter and most rest of it is same as intex. Also the large intex suction fitting has option to place a screw to keep the strainer grid in place. So with 2500 gph pump I can feel slight pull if I place hand over it however once strainer grid is removed is totally different story a small child could lose a hand! I can show pic of it with strainer grid removed. Can purchase on intex Corp website. You are probably familiar tho if you had a pool with these previously. Intex did have it so strainer grid was built in not removable they did start making that option again just don’t forget that on the intex Corp website you have to order gasket and nut on top of the strainer and strainer grid. When you look at the 1” opening on the small pool suction fitting compared to the opening on the large pool suction fitting it’s a huge difference isn’t just 1 1/4” to 1 1/2” cause the hose diameter is that but the fitting is way way larger opening it then has another set of threads that are smaller that screw on hose or plunger valve will attach to. The hole you cut in liner is approx 2.5” and i attach pic showing inside opening measurement which is almost 3” and then the strainer grid is allowing pull from all the way around the sides of the grid and the center which is right at 4” wide. So compare that to the tiny opening small pool fitting has then add another to split the suction rate and you are not getting anything. Initially the white rubber plug with hole n center came with intex skimmer for pumps too strong to slow the flow but now instructions clearly state to place it like a hat n the other suction port behind the strainer grid to get enough suction. You can use that or the kind comes with pool tho. I thought about trying this dual suction since just got intex ultra frame xtr and has 2yr warranty I don’t want to void but more research I do like you are I’m finding no no no not worth it. I love that people comment on how clean my pools always are. I also use z300 automatic vac by intex you can find on eBay seller is spreetail and find it “for parts only” 25.00 thing is I’ve got more than 6 now for parts initially cause was new and intex didn’t have parts but I found they worked fine most look new n box all parts one had crack on outer housing n front still work plus can return if you want but can’t even get replacement hose from intex for that price. Most ppl don’t read so they think ok vacuum let me connect to suction but no it doesn’t work like that water pressure powers it and then it creates it’s own suction. Has brushes and sweepers under it huge debris compartment and climbs walls goes up to water line sits there n brushes rotate takes while to get a routine n the pool I don’t know how doesn’t have computer but it will create routine and work great I’ve left mine in over a week! But add the cap to aerator on clean water inlet if you have one cause it will leak water out of aerator when using vac here is link says last one! Will add pic too.
