Intex salt water hard line plumbing

I have a pentair pump and filter and I'm having no problem getting the plumbing fittings to hook them up. My Saltwater system is a different story. It looks like the male threads on the Itex are 2" DWS, and I want to get to 1 1/2" PVC. So I need 2 fittings that go from 2" DWS to a 1 1/2" slip/glue joint, I think? Has anyone been through this and might have light to shed on a solution? TYIA, Ward

Hi Ward,

Sorry you haven't received any responses yet. Do you still need help? Without seeing photos, it sounds like you need a 2" to 1.5" reducer bushings plumbed into the adjoining fittings. If you still need assistance, post up some pics.

Best wishes!

Okay Rancho, here we go and I hope I make sense of it. :) In one picture it shows the nipple that came with the Intex. In the next it shows the threaded end ofthe Intex with the 1 1/2" piece of DWV that I want to connect to. I thought I could slide it over the supplied nipple but too much gap to seal. So what I'm looking for is a way to get from the threaded Intex part to a female slip/glue joint to connect the DWV PVC tubing. If that makes sense. I do need a 2" to 1 1/2" reducer but I need 2" female DWS threads to 1 1/2" PVC glue joint.salt.jpgsalt 1.jpg

I've been doing some searching, but not much luck on what type of threads are used on the Intex SWG. Do you know if threads are proprietary or regular pipe thread?

Have you tried one of these to see if the threads match?

Then use a 2" to 1.5" reducer bushing to connect to 1 1/2" pipe:

Check out this thread

You mentioned using DWV pipe. Drain/Waste/Vent PVC is not rated for pressure applications.

Experience here using an Intex system with a Hayward skimmer. The Hayward is 1 1/2” female thread but the Intex hoses are 40mm. So I used an adapter out of the Hayward and a piece of Intex hose to the pump. Adapter link below. Also, found it strange the harbor freight 2” discharge hose fit the 40mm waste port perfectly without adapters.

Well I found this on YT. This guy is a genius. 😁 I don’t know why someone doesn’t offer this fitting. I wish I would have found this forum sooner I would have asked questions about stuff like this. As it is, I have what I have.

On the pvc I’m using, it is all plumbed with DWV. Too late now it’s under concrete. It is much thicker than the flimsy fittings and hoses supplied with the pump and filter or the SWG. I hope it survives.77BD2216-ADA9-438B-851D-82B043C6D585.jpeg60767292-667B-40F8-B922-8D468ACCA663.jpeg

In general DWV pipe and fittings have thinner walls and less tensile strength than SCH 40 pressure rated pipe and fittings. Pressure rated PVC fittings have deeper sockets for stronger connections. I see a couple of 22.5 degree fittings in you photo that appear to be DWV only fittings. Pipe and fittings are often dual rated for DWV and pressure rated applications, but avoid those that specify they are not rated for pressure applications.

More info here on ASTM ratings...

Forgot to mention...good find! Seems like a simple adaptation. I wish I would have thought of it.

Good luck on the install!

Thank you all for the help. I was sick after thinking about the DWV pipe. I do have 1 11 deg DWV fitting in each pipe but the overall is sch 40. Those fittings are are buried in dirt then concrete now. Only solace I have now is that I capped them and put a valve stem in the cap and put 80 lbs. of and left for a couple days, and it held without losing. But I will always remember this going forward.E493AE2B-9000-47B4-B1DB-D25F2540D0DA.jpeg

I couldn’t find the fitting he showed in the video but think I found something better. I sent them with a friend with access to a lathe. He is going to face the the sealing edge and flatten out the threads on the inside to free up the flow a little. I’ll take pictures and give part numbers when I get them back in the event it could help someone else.
