Intex Model 8111 should filter pump run 24/7?

Hi there, I'm a new owner of a pool. It is a small 15' round x 4' deep pool. I have a Intex model 8111 Kyrstal Clear Deluxe Saltwater System. It is the SWG and filter pump all in one.

I hooked it all up and set the time to run for 3 hours per day. It turns on the filter pump and a minute later the "chlorine" light comes on. It runs for the programmed 3 hours and then everything goes into standby mode.

For some reason I thought the filter/pump should stay on and run 24/7? Wouldn't it be better to have it pump all the time circulating the water and cleaning it?

If 3 hours a day is sufficient then I'll just leave it be.

It's a small pool, so it doesn't need too much run time, is there instructions for increasing the run time? I know some models allow you to run the pump and not the SWG portion.
Also be sure to keep the water balanced (have you added stabilizer?).

A very key thing to note, the cartridges are disposable and meant to be tossed after 2 weeks of normal use. There are different brands of different material that can be cleaned, but that model uses the cheap cartridge filters and those are not meant to be cleaned and re-used. Knowing that will save you from a lot of clarity issues and prevent frustration.

For my size of pool it says it needs 3 hours of operation (chlorinating). So I guess 3 hours of pump/filtering is all it needs as well. It flows the water pretty fast.

I can run the pump only, if I plug the unit in and don't set the SWG time. After I set the SWG time to 3 hours the pump goes into standby after the 3 hours. I think I was under the assumption that a pool needs to pump/filter 24/7.

Okay, I'll replace filters every 2 weeks.

I have not added stabilizer or anything yet. Just the 110 pounds of salt at initial start up. I bought the test strips that I will use and check.

I found this in Intex FAQ's. It basically answers my question that the filter pump does NOT need to run 24/7 and it is operating correctly.

I have a Saltwater System/filter pump combination unit (combo), can I run just the filter pump only after the chlorinator has finished without re-setting or erasing the chlorinator's programmed timer?No. If there is a need to run the filter pump for extra time "only" after the system finishes its work, the only way is to flick the main switch OFF & ON and the pump will start running. This will erase the automatic timer-cycle program set in the memory for the daily chlorine production. When the extra filtration hours are over, re-reprogram the unit following the owner's manual.
