Hi guys,

I have been a long time follower of the forum for some great tips. I am quite new to sand filter pumps and hope you can help me out.

I recently purchased an intex 2100gph sand filter pump. The manual states to use 35lb of glass media (if using sand its 50lb). I decided to use the intex branded glass media. After i weighed the needed 35lb i started filling the tank. However using the 35lb the media just about reaches the minimum marking. The manual also says it should be between the min and max level. so i am now confused.

1. Should I add more glass media in order to have it reach between max and min markings in the tank. Or should i just leave it at 35lb regardless of how much it filled?

2. Also, i noticed in many videos I saw that the small sight glass bubble (near the presseure gauge and waste line) is full of water when the pump is running in filter mode or backwashing. Mine only remains about half full when in filter mode or in backwash mode. Is that ok? My pressure is good within the green at about 7psi

I would realy appreciate any insight on the above 2 questions

Thanks,
Sem

Hello Sem and welcome to TFP! While I wouldn't want you to overload the filter with the glass media, it would make sense that it should be at least slightly over the minimum marking. I suspect the weight different is because the sand is smaller and more sense, but either should fill the appropriate volume of the vessel. As for the sight glass, there should only be water in the sight glass when you are on backwash, rinse, or waste. You shouldn't actively see water flowing when in Filter or recirculate. Hope that helps. Post back if you have more questions.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve gone ahead and filled it just above the minimum line. For some reason though even when doing the backwash, the sight glass is only half full. Can this be because i do not have a hose connected to the backwash? Or because i am using the 1.25 to 1.5 inch adapters?
