Instructions for Pool Timer

Hey friends!

I bought an older home with an older inground pool and it has a T101 24 dial time switch intermatic timer. I checked you tube and I see instruction videos, but I am very nervous to set it because I don't want to mess anything up. All the instructions I see don't go through every detail, such as "turn filter off/on before setting timer etc."

I feel silly asking since it seems very straight forward, but I don't want to make any mistakes. Here is what I plan on doing based on the videos I've watched, please correct me if I have any step wrong:

1) Turn power off to filter (IS THIS CORRECT, OR SHOULD THE FILTER BE ON WHEN SETTING THE TIME? THERE IS A "LIGHT SWITCH" THAT TURNS THE POWER TO THE FILTER OFF AND ON. I BELIEVE THERE IS ALSO AN "OFF" CHOICE ON THE ACTUAL FILTER DIAL, BUT I'VE ONLY EVER USED "FILTER" AND 'BACKWASH" SO I DON'T RECALL FROM MEMORY)

2) On the timer, turn the bottom on/off lever to "on" (IS THIS CORRECT, OR SHOULD THE TIMER BE IN THE "OFF" POSITION WHEN SET?)

3) Pull the yellow dial out

4) Turn dial so arrow points to current time

5) Put "on clip" on the time I want the filter to start

6) Put "off clip" on the time I want the filter to shut off

7) Push the yellow dial back down

Anything I'm missing?

Thanks so much!

Steps 3-7 are right. Make sure when you screw the clips onto the dial, you tighten them pretty good (hand tight). They can slip if they are a little loose. Also, when you push the yellow dial back down, make sure it really is all the way down.

I'm not really sure about your step 1 and I don't quite recognize what you're describing. I would suggest you turn the filter pump that the timer is controlling off. If you have a light switch for that, use that. Ultimately, I don't think it really matters if you change the program while the filter is running or not because the timer is going to be on anyway (it's a clock that is always running after all), but I'm sure it's good practice to mess with it while the pump that is being controlled is off.

In step 2, again it doesn't really matter if you've already turned the main switch off, but I would recommend to turn the lever to the OFF position.
