How to remove spa filter?

Does anyone have a technique to remove their filter cartridge without allowing dirty water to fall into their spa. Our spa is situated under a tree and gets pine needles from time to time. Inevitably when I go to remove and clean my filter, much of the debris spills into the spa. Thanks in advance

That’s a GREAT question. I had a hot tub for 7 or so years and the thought never crossed my mind. I just dealt with the mess as a cost of doing business.

Now that you make me think about it, a shop vac would probably get most of it. If it’s never ending mess then find a way to dam it up and then suck out the filter area.
