Replumbed the pool last year. Grabbed my Magic Lube and greased them up for the winter so they wouldn't dryout.

Started looking at getting ready to open. Needed to relube the sand filter seal. Looked up what to use. Come to find out, the cord ring is not supposed to be lubricated. P*#l St@re, last year lubricated it. Grrrrrr.

Magic Lube is PTFE based and I should be using Magic Lube II (Silicone based) on the unions.

How can I clean off the PTFE lube without hurting the o-rings? Want to clean the cord ring and unions, so cord ring is clean and unions have Silicone.

Thanks!

Well, thanks for learning me that my pool store might have the wrong one the next time i need it.

I'd try clorox wipes. At least you'd know the bleach won't hurt them. We found during the shoratges that we really prefferred Home Depots HDX wipes. I would have never bought them until they were the only ones left for months. They are a good mixture of wet, but not too wet, and have textured bumps for stubborn things.

So here’s my suggestion - buy a new o-ring. And always keeps spares on hand.

What could they possibly cost? Whatever they cost, it’s not worth the hassle of trying to figure out how to clean them while the pool sits idle.

In my engineering days, we kept drawers full of every spare consumable part possible for all of our equipment. If a consumable failed or was damaged in some way, you throw it out and install a new one. Up-time of equipment is much more important than conservation of parts and when those parts cost less the damage done by idle equipment, you simply replace.
