How to make the skimmer stronger?

Hello all, is there anything I can do to make my skimmer stronger? Every morning I wake up to several bugs floating around the pool that I need to net out.

Does your skimmer have a working weir door between the skimmer mouth and the skimmer basket?

What speed do you normally run your VS pump??

How many return eyeballs does your pool have and are they all pointed to cause the pool water to swirl.. like in a flushing toilet bowl.. Much, much slower of course?

There are after market devices you can buy that will increase suction by sitting on top of your skimmer basket and regulating the opening of water coming in. Smaller openings increase the speed of water and therefore increasing skimmer action. Work great IMO but you need to watch water levels because as they drop the skimmer will move water faster and faster till they start to starve the pump for water. I like my water level high so the skimmer is less effective but my product allows me to compensate. Very happy i got them.

Yes it has a door. At the moment I have a 2 speed pump but will change to VS next week. I have 8 returns. The return eyes are different than traditional returns, they have 3 small holes in them, one points up diagonally, and the other two point down diagonally all going in the same direction.

Netting the pool surface and brushing the sides and bottom is not something that can or should be eliminated. Reduce the hand work by improving and adjusting your equipment, absolutely but do not expect to sell your net or brush any time soon.

I see that as a disadvantage, as the swirling water helps move stuff in front of the skimmers... Another factor is where you keep your water level.. As the water gets higher it seems that the skimming action gets less.. So, I recommend keeping the water level in the middle of the skimmer mouth.

With a VS pump you can program it to run a little faster once or twice a day to help with skimming.
