How to make a pool cover roller

I did some looking on youtube.
PVC - deflects a lot, almost comical.
Looks nice, uses roller blade wheels for bearings, not sure where you would get the massive steel pole.
This one looks nice. You can probably make do without the nice computer guided device he uses to cut the wheel.
Not much detail on how to build this one (none). Cover looks like just a piece of plastic, so probably very light.
Uses roller skate bearings. Pipe filled with foam insulation to reduce flex (doesn't really work very well). Uses drill to turn.

How big is your pool? It might be better to buy something like this and mount it on 4x4 posts if you don't have a deck surrounding your pool.

I copied mas985's idea. It's really the best solution. That first cover idea is rolled up into a giant mess. No thanks. Splitting the cover in 2 and using ABS pipe (because it floats) is a very simple solution that works great.
