How to get our Pool Pump to automatically come back on after a Power Outage?

New pool owner here! We have a Jandy Flopro VS Pump w/o controller 1.85HP with Aqualink RS. We lose power regularly (once a month at least). When the power comes back we have to manually turn on the power. We were told by the pool builder: If your house loses power then it resets the entire equipment pad. When the equipment pad resets it will have to be turned back on as this is a normal setting inside the system. This is a safety feature so the systems doesn’t hurt itself, equipment or pool.

We have since learned that if the pump is wired directly to the breaker, it will come back on automatically. I have also read something about having a program created to have the pump come back on.

A little lost about what to ask the pool company. Seems like there's a way to do it but would love to know specifically what to ask for.

Thanks for your input!

New,

I have a Pentair automation system and it is a requirement that any VS pump be wired directly to a breaker and not a relay.

My system will automatically come back up after a power interruption.

I am not sure how your Aqualink should work.. Let's see if we can get one of our RS owners to chime in..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Can you post some pictures of your setup? I believe that the Aqualink RS will restart the pump after a power failure if there is a schedule for the pump to be running. Do you have a schedule setup for the pump, or are you just turning in on manually from the interface and letting it run 24/7? If the latter you probably need to create a schedule for the pump.

I have also read something about having a program created to have the pump come back on.

That is correct. You need the Aqualink running the pump on a schedule for it to restart the pump after a power glitch.

Are you using iAqualink on a phone or PC or what device?

Show us what schedules you have set in your Aqualink. You should have an entry for Filter Pump like...

^^^ That. Modern (as in the last 15 years) Aqualink firmware should automatically revert to the schedule when power is restored. If you have iAqualink, please post a screenshot of the Schedule screen.

With that schedule you will run your pump virtually 24 hours. That's ok if you have your the speed set up a to a lower speed say 1900rpm which you set up in in the menu under System Set up then click on VSP set up, then click speed set up , then click next then click on pool and enter your speed. It may be set up already for various speeds like when your pool is heating it might be higher, but regular speed run it as low as you can to get skimming (if you have salt at the minimum flow rate that your SWG allows). I run mine at 1900 but probably could go lower but it works and is much cheaper than running at high speed assuming you have a variable speed pump. When heating spa or pool it kicks up to 2700.
