How Soon to Swim After Dry Acid?

Hi!
Pool Math is recommending 7 lbs dry acid to help adjust a high TA number. How long would you wait to swim after? 30 minutes long enough if pump is circulating?

Thabks!
EDIT - I also did not catch that you were using dry acid. Definitely follow Marty’s advice.
If you are adding MURIATIC acid and your pump is circulating at a reasonable speed, 30 minutes is what I’ve seen recommended here - and that’s what I’ve done.

Welcome to the forum.

Please do not do this. Dry acid is not a product you should use. Also, manage the pH, not the TA. When pH reaches 8, lower it to 7.4 or so. Use muriatic acid.

Interesting… I was just following the pool math app which said i should lower pH to address a high TA number.

How are you testing? Your Poolmath logs look like pool store testing.

You added a huge amount of baking soda recently. Never make huge adjustments.

Hey Wolf !!! Are you still using the pool store or did you switch to the colorQ ? (Ha you just answered this above. Thanks). Also what happened with the TA ? It was low and you added a couple times and overshot ?

OK -- ColorQ is good for low FC and pH. Other results are not that great - but up to you.

Just manage pH. Test TA when you need to adjust pH. The TA level is needed by Poolmath to determine how much muriatic acid is needed to lower pH.

Lol… not sure I can answer that at my current skill level… but was just letting chlorine levels settle after SLAM & all numbers looked fine except TA rising last few days. Have been enjoying being done with the Guess Strips!!!

Points well taken.
So are you saying if the TA is the only number out of range you wouldn’t tweak at all?
I would not. TA is only a concern if your CSI is an issue. If you believe the ColorQ, your CSI is not an issue.

Ok. Sorry. Lemme break it down.:)

your TA whether good, bad or ugly should remain mostly constant. In the last 2 weeks yours has been in the 90s. Then 20s, a few 0s and then back up and now 140s.

so it looked like something tanked your TA, You added to raise it, and overshot to be ‘high’ now.

Either way, follow the PH like Marty said. The TA will settle itself in the process.

Ah… Yeah for whatever reason it dropped to zero while doing the SLAM. Then climbed with little effort since. Thanks for spelling that out. 😉

+1. I get it Wolf. I do. You have what you have and you’d like to use it. But if it’s going to be that far off in 2 weeks for a # that stayed constant…….. do you really want to use that toy to dose from ?
