Hello!
I tested the water on 3/18 in the morning and FC was 6.5. I just texted again on 3/20 around 4pm and FC is 2.5. CYA is 40. I am a newbie when it comes to pool care but the FC going down that much sounds like a lot to me. It is not even the summer yet! Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Laura

If you have any load, pollen, swimmers, sun heat, it can be big. In OHIO, I can lose up to 4ppm in a day. Even with CYA at 50. 2.5 over 2.5 days sounds about right for shoulder months in AZ. Do you get sun on the pool? Do you have a cover?

Thank you for your response! It is good to know that 2.5 is not bad. We are not swimming in the pool yet but there's a tree on the other side of the fence that has tiny flowers and they have been falling in the pool. I keep skimming multiple times a day but it is hard to keep up. We dont have a cover but we do get a lot of sun on the pool. Thanks again!

Organics and sun. 1-1.5 FC / Day would be expected with these in shoulder months.

Hey Laura !!!

Everything is going to seem like alot at first as you get to learn your pool. (Don't worry, you have us in the meantime). Now, no two pools behave the same, but so early in the season you should be on the lower end of the daily loss range. Maybe 2.5 is just right, maybe not. So here is what you do anytime you think there may be something growing or the FC loss doesn't seem right. You take the sun out of the equation with an overnight test. If you lose FC (more than 1) with no swimmers or UV loss, there are organics consuming your FC. Please read the full version here. Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

If you pass, great. If you don't, even GREATER as you sensed something wrong at an early stage and have a huge leg up in the SLAM Process

I'm in the Phx area, too. Last summer, i peaked at about 3.5ppm of FC loss per day. That equates to about 70 ounces of chlorine daily in my 15k gallon pool. That is with cya at 60 and the pool getting full sun from about 8am to 5pm.

This year, I have a 12ft sail shade to cover part of the pool and I hope I'll save some chlorine with that given the price increases.

Hello neighbor! Thanks for the response! I didnt know chlorine has increased in price since this is my first year with a pool. It is good to know how other pools in the area are doing. Thanks again!

So you're losing 2ppm/day which is most likely typical for this time of the year in your local but to make sure I'd do a OCLT to confirm what the 2ppm lose is from.
