How do I get the multiport valve back onto the sand filter?

Company that closed my pool last year removed the multiport valve and I can not get it to go back into the pipe completely. Should I just use force? Do not want to damage anything. Should I try removing the pipe from the sand, connecting first, then pushing it all back into the filter?

looks like the laterals are not on the bottom.
Sorry, but it looks like you will need to remove the sand and get the laterals down on the bottom. pushing wont do anything but screw up your equipment. close it your self next time and you wont run into this problem.
The freeze thaw cycle must have pulled the stand pipe up out of the laterals connection.

Yeah, that or the crew that removed the MPV for winter pulled the center pipe up a bit with it. Removing the sand is your safest bet to ensuring everything is placed all the way back down properly. Some people have tried re-setting the lateral assembly by slowly & carefully inserting a garden hose down there and turning on the hose to try and loosen things up in an effort to try and "carefully" wiggle the lateral assembly back down to the floor. But as noted above, you have to be very careful. That too can be risky and if too much pressure is applied, you run the risk of breaking a lateral. :hammer:

cannot get MPV off pipe and everything has been raised out of the sand now
Take your time. Deep breath. Those MPVs can really stick to the center pipe and sometimes be quite troublesome to separate. Try a variety of things to slowly try and get some movement without getting mad and busting everything apart. Try things like:
- Tapping the bottom of the MPV (angle upwards) from underneath and around the center-pipe. You might use a mallet or hammer with another piece of PVC to tap.
- If you have a strap wrench or two, try twisting the two apart.
- Consider using hot & cold water applications to try and help the two parts separate.

as above states, take your time, maybe drink a beer. gentle twist while uplift? Get a helper to lift opposite you.

I know this is a separate issue, but why would the MPV be removed during winter? It has a winter position.

no idea why they removed it during winter, new pool owner and the company had been opening/closing this property for years. I won't be using them anymore.
