The foam insert for my hot tub cover is broken along 3 lines and is sagging. I was thinking of wrapping the foam insert in fiberglass instead of buying new. My thought process is as follows:
- Hot tub is only 4 years old
- original cover is good shape
- replacement may have the same problem in another 4 years
- Wrapping the foam in FRP (2 layers of 2oz cloth or maybe one 4 oz layer - haven't decided yet) will probably have more structural strength than new foam
- FRP provides water barrier to prevent foam from getting water logged again
I recognize that this repair will add to the weight but it seems to make sense to me vs buy new every 4-5 years.
*edit - The piece of foam size is ~82" x 42" x 3"
*edit 2 - just recognized that this is in the water chemistry section, should have placed it in the appropriate equipment forum. Not sure how to move this post, so if a mod could delete or move it, it would be appreciated
