Hi y'all! I am trying to keep this stuff balanced and still learning how each level interacts with each other. My chlorine has been running high for the past week - so I have reduced my SWG to 30% (was 50% - recommended by builder). Pump runs 12hrs a day also recommend by the pool builders. I am thinking of reducing pump time, but am unsure. PH has been holding steady until this week - which makes me think extra swimming and swimmers threw that off. Will adding muriatic acid to lower PH also lower chlorine? Thanks!

My results this morning using a Taylor K-2006 kit.

FC- 10.4
CC- 0
PH- 8.0
TA- 90
CYA- 70
Salt- 3400
Temp-78
Pool size- 10800 gal

Welcome to TFP!!:handwave:

You have a good test kit, great!!

No, the MA to lower the pH will not affect your FC. Also, it appears you are using 25 mL sample for 0.2 ppm accuracy on the FC. You can go ahead and use 10 mL sample for 0.5 ppm accuracy. It will save you reagents and is close enough for us.

Pool builders are generally great at building pools, but less than stellar at giving recommendations on how to maintain them. Once you get the pool dialed in remember as the summer progresses you may need to dial it back up as the days get sunnier/hotter. If you are planning on having a bunch of folks over for a pool party, go ahead and bring the FC up 1 - 2 ppm with bleach before hand to help out the SWCG.

As to the pump run time, again it's easy for him to say run it 12 hours - he doesn't pay your electric bill. Check out this article: Pool School - Determine Pump Run Time

Please edit your signature and add the following information so we can better frame our answers to you.

  • List what test kit you use to test your water
  • The size of your pool in gallons
  • If your pool is an AG (above ground) or IG (in ground)
  • If it's IG, tell us if it's vinyl, plaster/pebble, or fiberglass
  • The type filter you have (sand, DE, cartridge)
  • If you know, tell us the make and model of your pump and filter.
  • List any other equipment you have: SWG, second pump, etc.
  • Please mention if you fill the pool from a well or are currently on water restrictions

Information in your signature will show up each time you post and it makes advice more accurate as we know what equipment we are dealing with.
