All,
I am attempting with some friends to DIY my pool coping and tile. I need help on ordering and struggling on how much I need. I have attached a picture. Things to keep in mind spa will have 6" of tile inside and out. The top of spa will have coping all around except the overflow. The raised wall is steps up and down on both sides but I took the highest measurement for height. I am using a 3x3 tile but I want two rows. I will be using a travertine that is 4"x12"x1.5". Please help.

89" round - is that diameter or circumference? Assuming diameter.

Your pool has 140 linear feet of coping and spa 23'. Add 10% for waste. I would order 180' to 200' of travertine.

4"x12"x1.5" sounds like a very small stone for coping.

So you need 140' of tile to surround the pool for every row of tile plus 10%.

How is this comparing with your calculations?

How about showing your calculations and we will check your work.

Giving public math a try. I came up with 139 including spa. I also attached a picture of the coping. The raised wall would be 5 6x6 high by (one row is already calculated) so I would need 37'x2' (74 sqft) tile for raised wall. For pool line I come up with 139 linear feet (I need 70 sq ft of tile). So I am thinking order of ordering 215 sq ft of tile. and 200 of travertine.

Why aren't you using the 12'x24"x1.5' size for coping? You don't want to be laying so many small 4" stones and grout lines to fill.

What happened to your pool diagram in post #1?

Hard to follow the diagram is this a square pool modern style? If so use the biggest coping you can the 24" would be my choice for pool and then the skinny 4" for the spa so the radius looks cleaner. When you add sq footage for a rough number of wierd shapes try to make a square out of the #s or add a mirror image like if its triangular add another to to make a square and total that area.
I'm guessing he is going to re plaster pool and you guys are gonna DIY the tile and coping portion of it?
