Heater install

Installing a heater for my older pool. Never had a heater before. All my plumbing is 1.5 inch but the heater I/O connections are 2 inch. I am wondering if it is ok to increase the diameter just before the heater and then again just after. Any major concerns with this? Natural gas heater. Hayward H250FD. Can’t find anything in the manual that says either way.

No concerns, just use the appropriate reducer.

I'd suggest adding an external bypass while installing your heater.
