Need to replace my Hayward H250 gas heater (Natural gas). Have a Jandy PDA. Should I stay with the Hayward brand of heater or purchase a Jandy JXi and update to the Aqua link App. Technician is recommending the Jandy, but wanted some input from the experts on this site. Appreciate !!

Your heater does not drive what automation you need. Any brand heater will work with automation. The pump and (if installed) SWCG dictates what automation you need. All three of those need to be from the same manufacturer for best functionality.

The Raypak heaters are deemed the best here on the forum.

Marty;
Thank you for your quick response. Had heard about the Raypak heaters, but never saw one installed in my area. Hayward seems to be the common name, probably because of Pinch a Penny. Going to see if this company deals with Raypak. Thanks again.

I would suggest searching Hayward heaters on this forum. A number of issues have been reported.

Take care.

Again, thank you. Did some quick reading on the Raypak heater and have decided to follow your lead in going with this particular manufacturer. Present non-working heater is a Hayward H-250.(250,000 BTU's) Installed by the pool contractor when home was built back in 2006. What size and model would you recommend with the Raypak? Live in Tampa, Fl. If the dealer that I am presently dealing does not have access to a Raypak, I will find someone that does. Appreciate all your advice and assistance. It has helped me with making the right decision.

If the rating of the Hayward was sufficient to heat the pool as you wanted, stay with a similar size. That way your piping and meter size will be ok. I suspect you have to get a permit to install.

I sent you a PM.

Marty: Sound advice. Will check on the permit issue. Thank you as always.

Thank You. I have a lot of confidence and trust in this forum. Your endorsement of the Raypak pool heater adds to my trust. Am going to go with the Raypack. Now just have to identify an installer that I have equal confidence.

Update on my pool heater. Contacted ps0303, a TFP Expert on the forum and owner of Gastek Pool & Gas Services in Tampa, Fl. Paul came to my home, evaluated my situation and as of this past Tuesday, installed a new Rheem Model 266A. Paul is a straight-shooter, no double talk and a very good communicator. Went through all of my options in detail and let me decide what was best for me. No pressure. Paul showed up to do the install when he told me he would, very neat and clean install. Walked me through how to operate the new Rheem heater and cleaned up perfectly afterwards. If you did not see the new heater, you would never knew he was there. In addition, the gentleman that cuts the neighbors yard and my irrigation repair company gentleman, both commented on the appearance and neatness of the installation. Also, it works great. Kudos go out to Paul and Gastek Pool & Gas Services.
