Hayward T 15 versus T9

Stick with the T-15 cell.

A T-15 cell can produce 585 pounds of chlorine gas in its life time while a T-9 cell only produces 385 pounds.

You will save electricity by not having to run the T-15 cell as long as a T-9 cell. The T-15 cell can produce 1/2 pound more of chlorine gas in a day, hence shorter pump run times.

D,

The TFP recommendation is that a salt cell should be at least 2 x the volume of your pool... That makes the T-9 too small and the T-15 the minimum size that we would recommend...

How old is your current cell and if less than three years old, why do you think it is bad?

Thanks,

Jim R.

The Cell is probably close to 5 years old. I am having to reset the machine daily as it is indicating low salt and check cell. I have had my water checked at the pool store and they are telling me the salt level is actually around 3600 ppm. They say I need to backwash to bring the salt level down. A person also told me that if I get the pool salt level under 3400 ppm the machine will start reading correctly but I find this hard to believe. The cell is still generating chlorine and I was hoping to get the summer out of it due to the cost to replace cell here in Canada. Does resetting the machine daily or allowing it to run with the low salt and check cell indicators flashing damage any part of the system?

Thanks

D. Chadwick

D,

At five years old your cell may be bad, but I suggest you read this... https://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/manuals/AquaRiteDiagnostics.pdf

If you run the Diagnostic tests and report back the results, we have some pretty sharp people here that might be able to point you in the right direction..

You did not say, but I assume you have cleaned the cell??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim

The cell has been cleaned both using just fresh water and water and Muriatic acid. The cell is T15 using software version 1.58. I found that when generating the Cell's voltage was 26.3 volts and the amps were 5.02. When not generating the voltage was 35.2 volts and 0 amps. I do not have a spare cell so I could not compare readings. I reset the average salt level and when the number settled down it was -2200. According to the pool store test the salt is 3600.

Any insight to my problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

D. Chadwick

I would NOT go by pool store results. They told me that I have 2100 and it's actually 3300 according to the salt test strip and my control panel. Did you try testing it on your own with a test strip to get an accurate salt reading?
