Good morning.
I've searched online and I've read some conflicting suggestions. I am about top replace the spider gasket on my Hayward Filter and was looking for suggestions on what to use for the adhesive. I'm looking for something cost affective and quick drying as my pump is already running and I don't want to not run for too long. Any help/suggestions would be appreciative.

Welcome to TFP!

Hayward says to use 3M 4799 adhesive or superglue.

The superglue made me a bit nervous as it has to be right.

The advantage of the superglue is you have virtually no waiting, while the 4799 requires 24 hours to dry.

I used Permatex 81158 as I couldn’t get the 3M product fast enough.

Great to be here thanks!
looks like its cost affective and quickly accessible. The back of Permatex tube says allow 24 hours to dry in most conditions. How long did you wait before you put the top back onto filter?
Another question I forgot to ask, prior to removing the top valve, should I close off the skimmer and return. Just making sure there's no backflow when I take it off.

I waited 24 hours. Almost had to since I was working at the time.

Closing valves usually makes it easier to prime, but it isn’t required

I just put the new gasket on using the Permatex as you suggested. What took longest was cleaning out the old one. The permatext was a bit messy too. Had to close off skimmer and return because water was gushing out.. I'll wait the 24hours and put it back on. My only other concern is that some posts I read online stated the gasket on top of the valve should be replaced. I am going to take it off, clean it, put some Jacks lube on it and hope for the best. Worst case I can replace that easy.
