Hi all, wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with a Hayward Heatpro 2100 shuddering and clicking. Eventually a PS error comes up making me think it’s a low pressure issue, but I think I’ve ruled that out since the bypass is closed and water flow is good yet the heater is shuddering and clicking. This happens even after a good backwash. I even switched the pressure switch and issue remains the same. Hoping it’s a cheap fix I can DYI, otherwise will need to call a tech.

Heres a video to show the issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to TFP.

Your compressor is cycling. The HP is probably low on refrigerant.

You need to call an HVAC tech who has an EPA certificate and the tools to check the refrigerant.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will try to call a tech — it’s been hard to find one to work on such an old heat pump and not sure anyone would add r22 at this point. If it’s the case that the refrigerant is low, I think the whole system is toast.

Just one question/thought regarding the refrigerant as this may be the last shot I can take before replacing the whole system. The pump still heats very well and I don’t see any leaks. That bring said, Is it worth replacing the control board and/or contactor to see if the problem resolves?

Thanks again for your help.
