Hoping you guys can help. I'll describe the best that I can - I'm not a technician. At the top end of the coiled pvc tubes of the heat exchanger, there is something that looks like a threaded fitting that screws into the coiled pvc. The heat exchanger tube runs through the middle of it. This piece has developed a crack in it and is leaking. The pool store folks said that I have to replace the whole heat exchanger. I find this hard to believe and am looking for more affordable solutions. Any suggestions? Thanks,99804

The metal tube carries refrigerant. The pvc carries water. Is the crack in the pvc and leaking water?

I have no idea if this will work or how long it will last but you might try HighHeat Epoxy Putty to seal the crack.

Two years is a pretty good life for that type of repair. A repair will just buy you some more time.

I think this thread finally convinced me my HP21404T is beyond DIY repair. I was hoping to buy the exchanger and install myself. As it's the PVC pipes that busted (didn't winterize properly). I knew it was ambitious but seeing that there's no way around discharging/charging refrigerant I think it's beyond me and the cost of the exchanger plus labor effectively is going to effectively total it out for me. So bummed.
