Hayward GVA-24 Actuator Valve not working

Hello to all,

I have 3 actuator valves: 2 to switch from Pool to Spa Mode and back, and 1 for a filter bypass. It's the filter bypass actuator valve that is not working.

The filter bypass actuator valve is on AUX 6 of my automation system, and pressing the Aux 6 button on and off, etc, nothing happens. If this bypass act value is set-up in an automation function, could this have anything to do with it? Either way, if something else is in an automation function and I hit the button that controls that function, it will always change it during that function, then revert back to that function when the function is programmed to come on again. However, all of those function buttons can be changed at any time while operating if that button is pressed. But, under no circumstances will the Filter Bypass Valve ever initiate no matter when the button [AUX 6] is pressed.

If there's anything I can do to troubleshoot, pls advise.

Thanks for your help in advance,
tstex

tex,

On the actuator there is a little three position switch. Make sure it is not in the middle (off) position..

Moving the switch from one extreme to the other should cause the valve to turn. If the valve does not turn when moving the switch , then most likely one of the little micro-switches inside the actuator is bad.

If you search this site for "actuator repair" you should find plenty of repair advice.

Thanks for posting,

Wow, thanks Jim, just learned something [again]. The switch was in the middle.

When I move it to one side, it goes one way, then if I switch back to the other side, then it moves back that way. However, when I put it in the far right position and hit AUX 6, I hear the clicking of the AUX button but nothing happens at the actuator valve. What do I need to do to make sure the AUX 6 button will make the change so when using my remote, I can change from filtering to non-filtering while using SPA, thus bypassing the filter for greater pressure by initiating the FILTER BYPASS?

Thank you very much,
tstex

Tex,

The switch just reverses the "home" position.

Using the little switch, put the valve in the non-bypassed position. Do not move the switch back to off... When you push Aux 6 the valve should move to the bypassed position.

If that does not work, then I need to ask what you did just before this quit working... ???

I assume it was working fine and now is not.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim/Marty,

Thanks. It's dark now so I will visit in the Sun am and post back the results.

It's been awhile since I used this so I'm not sure when it stopped working. The bypass valve was the recommendation of the guy we had design the pool. It was supposed to help increase the jet pressure in the spa by water not having to go thru the 4-cartridge filter. I rarely use it, but since my 3-yr warranty is almost up, I wanted to make sure everything is working properly-Thanks again, tstex

PS - I'll post a pic in the am too

The bypass valve should have been hooked up to "Valve 3" on the controller. You can test if that works by just pressing the valve 3 button. The Aux 6 may have been setup as a Group function for the spa which also set the valve but the valve should work by just pressing the valve 3 button alone as well. That way you can test each separately to find out where the problem may lie.

Note that there is a setting for the valves (3&4) such that they will not toggle until the pump is running for at least 3 min (i.e. Pump Interlock).

Thanks Mark. I will post back tomorrow am after I have done a little research. As you stated, I knew there was something w the linking of functions, but did not know there was a 3 min lock-out for the pump to have been running before it will engage.

Merry Christmas to all and I'll be in touch soon,
tstex

The interlock may or may not be enabled in the settings. I just wanted to make you aware that it exists.
