Handrails: Polymer or Stainless Steel

I'm new to this forum but was recommended by a neighbor who said it is very helpful, esp for new pool owners. We recently moved to Arizona and purchased a home with a pool. With no idea what to do, we hired a pool company to handle the water chemicals (tho we have a salt water pool), filters, etc. They seem to be doing a good job, but now I'd like to put in a handrail for safety, as we both are senior citizens.

There are two areas in the pool with steps, but I have no problem with the deeper area as I can hold onto the side of the pool to get in and out. However, the initial descent into the pool, onto a small step, would be much safer for me with a small handrail. I'm debating between a rail made of a polymer material (made by Saftron) or a powder-coated stainless steel rail made by Inter-Fab. Both are highly rated, but I'm concerned about the durability of a pool rail in the intense Arizona sun.

I was told the polymer material would get less hot, and it's advertised to not chip or flake (carries a five-year warranty). It also comes in various colors. The powder coating also comes in colors and is also supposed to keep the rail cooler, but since they sell a paint to cover unintended chips in the rail, I'm assuming it may also chip.

Does anybody have any experience with either that might make you recommend one over the other?

A metal rail will require the anchor cups to be bonded to the bonding grid.

The Saftron rail with polymer anchor cups is exempt from the bonding requirement.

A retrofit rail is difficult to bond. So, I would recommend the Saftron.

Thank you SO much! I knew about the bonding but did not know a retrofit rail was hard to bond. I sure don’t want a shock every time I get into the pool! Thanks for your quick response.
