Hello! We opened our pool this weekend about 1.5 months late. New cover on pool but pool level was about a foot lower than at closing. We don't know if we have a slow leak or evaporation. We decided to use pond water to save money and save our well pump. Here's what we've done so far. Hubby vacuumed all solids to waste, brushed and refilled back with more pond water. I put robot in this evening and put what stabilizer I had in(2 pounds). I've only tested ph which is 6.8. I don't have washing soda. Planning to go to store tomorrow for stabilizer and chlorine. I have enough chlorine to start a SLAM but should I start if CYA is very low? We're cloudy and will be next few days. I estimate that CYA is around 10 because traditionally, it's always at 0 upon opening.

Raise your TA to 60 using baking soda, retest TA and pH after 30 minutes. Then adjust pH if necessary to 7.4 using Borax. Bot additions, pump on high, and brush around a bunch to get it mixed.

Do not start SLAM until pH is back to 7.4. Do not start slam you have a sock filled with dry chlorine stabilizer. Once the sock is in the pool, start the slam. After sock is in the pool 30 minutes, you might get to squeezing it...

Slam will have to wait until tomorrow. I had 4 pounds of baking soda on hand so added that. Hubby won't listen to me. Told him it was pointless to add any chlorine until I get everything in order to SLAM.

Got everything I needed. Added the baking soda, waiting to test. Going to put about 2 to 3 pounds of CYA in a sock, then start the slam after retesting. Hubby's vacuuming and brushing after work. Should I try to get CYA up to around 20 then increase after SLAM to save on chlorine? I think that's what I did last year. Pics are from yesterday. Can slightly see the bottom today. 1000007133.jpg1000007134.jpg

This is what it looked like after 3 days of SLAM and brushing and vacuuming. We had a death in the family so I couldn't test in a while. Here are today's numbers.
ph 7.8
FC 2
TA 100
CYA 20
CH 150
I had half a bag left of CYA, it's all in the sock now. Concerned about the ph creeping up and that high of alkalinity. Need to pick up some muriatic acid. Thoughts?

Lower it back to 7.4 and get your SLAM on!
