Gunite Pool Rehab

Hey ZOSO and Welcome !!!!

Whereabouts on the island ?

Post up pics of the pool, equipment area, yard and anything else that could be relevant.

Welcome to TFP.

My son bought a home on LI that had a pool that had not been opened in many years. All equipment was missing. But the pool held water although it has some previously repaired cracks.

Draining and acid washing the pool cleaned it up. It got all new equipment. Some coping and cracked pipe repairs. Started in the pool in April and grandkids were swimming in August.

Does the shell hold water?

Does the pipes pass a pressure test?

If so then the pool can be brought alive pretty easily. Just have your checkbook open.

Show us pictures of the current status.

Was it closed and properly cared for during those 16 years or was it basically abandoned to Mother Nature the whole time??

If no one took care to keep it properly closed during that’s time, then freeze/thaw damage is quite possible. That can affect everything from the structural soundness of the shell to the integrity of the underground plumbing.

So, at Alan stated above, if the shell holds water and plumbing is sound, it should be easy to get going while decide on how you’d like to remodel it. If it can’t hold water or the plumbing is shot, then you’ve got a lot more upfront work to do on it before you consider any kind of remodel and equipment changes.
