Hello all,
First post here after lurking for a few months. Bought a house with an inground pool that also happens to be my first pool. I've been doing well so far with it, getting the water tested at the store every other week and supplementing that with daily test strip tests which stated everything has been in range for the most part since the beginning of the season.
I have a Hayward DE4820 filter. Beginning of season it was at 17 psi. I've backwashed a few times but never got it back down to its starting psi but the water had been crystal clear and it tested well. Just last week we went on vacation and the filter must have stopped working. I came home last Sunday to a green pool. I took the grid out and hosed it down well as I've seen done on numerous videos, replaced it, brushed the entire pool, shocked it, and kept the Polaris running for just over 24 hours. My new psi reading after fully cleaning the filter is 18 psi. Got home from work and the pool looked good, still a bit cloudy but not green. So I turned the filter off and came back about a half hour later to find that green water was clouding up from the bottom drain. Looked like a green cloud of smoke rising from the bottom of the pool. I turned the filter back on thinking it would suck the green water back down (it might have eventually) but in the meantime the jets were also shooting out green water. About 3 minutes later, the jets turned clear so I let it run overnight and it's mostly gone. The psi remains at 18.
I guess my main question is why a freshly cleaned filter, with no change in pressure, would return the dirty water to the pool? Is there anything I should look at replacing?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Bill
