Granular chlorine

I’m opening my pool today and sent my husband to rural king to get the concentrated liquid chlorine that I always use (or bleach). He went to Wal Mart and brought home a giant tub of granular chorine. Should I just return this and go get the liquid to clear things up or can I use this? I’ve never used chlorine like this. I know it’s probably a dumb question but I like to do things the same way and that I know will work but also returning an item and going out into the world is so much extra work for me....

Depends on what your granular chlorine has in it. If it is calcium hypochlorite, it will add calcium to your water. If it is trichlor or dichlor it will add stablizer to your water. Depending on your current calcium level or stablizer level, that might not be something you want to add to your water.

Justin is spot-on, and since you appear to have checked your current spring-opening water test results, you know what to do. So in this case the side effects of that product work in your favor. It's great to be in charge of your pool isn't it? :goodjob:
