Filling the pool after plastering

Hello:
As an intro, I'm located in south Jersey. The well water is horrible with a lot of iron. I use a water conditioning system and a water softener to get decent potable water for the home. We have a neighbor that filled their pool using a hose and it ruined the plaster, so I plan on trucking in water. The gunite pool is built and plastering is scheduled for next week. The PB says that the pool needs to be filled immediately after plastering. It is almost impossible to get a water truck scheduled to fill the pool immediately after plastering. I'm also seeing several references to having 24" of water in the pool before you fill it from a truck. I assume that is to keep the large flow of truck water from damaging the plaster. At this point I'm stuck. I can't put 24" of house water in the pool before the truck water and I can't get the truck water to commit to delivery at a specific time.

I'm hoping for something like this. The pool gets plastered. I have the pool filled within a day or two of plastering. The trucking company has filled pools before and knows how to avoid damaging the plaster. Any advice, suggestions, and comments are greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

Can you point to those references? They did not come from here.

There is no problem with filling an empty pool from the water truck. Plaster will be hard within a few hours after they are done.

It is best to get water into a new pool ASAP but pools sit for a day before being filled when acid washed or polished. I have only done it a few times but never had a problem scheduling water trucks on the day I needed it although sometimes it took until 10pm.

Hi Allen:
Thanks for the reply. You are correct, the info I'm referring to are from the plastering companies. This is typical :
  1. If you are to use water that is being trucked in, a cushion of 24" must be in the bowl of the pool. Water shall be introduced in such a manner that it will not damage the plaster.

It sounds like I can wait until the following day to fill the pool. That's good news.
Thanks.

Well that is typical vendor cautions with no actual details on what are the safe ways to fill a pool.

The operable caution is “Water shall be introduced in such a manner that it will not damage the plaster.”

Well yeah, duh?

Just work with the water truck operator that the first load of water is not directed right on the plaster. Meter the water flow as slow as possible. Point the hose away from the plaster. Use some common sense and you will be fine.

Thanks so much for the help. As of now, I have the plastering scheduled for Wednesday and the water on Thursday. Spoke with the water people and they'll well aware of the need to be throttle back on the water at first. I have a 15 x 30 roman style pool, standard depth from 3-5 feet. I figure I need around 13,500 gallons. PB says I need 15,188. Truck is delivering 13,600 (2 truck loads). Assuming the PB is correct, what is the risk of using my filtered water from the house (it is softened and still has a little iron) for the remaining 1,588 gallons? I'm thinking that any impurities will get diluted by the truck water. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

Put some filters on your fill water...

You need to figure out how you are going to manage the fill water in your pool. Metals accumulate in teh water. You may need to give your pool some polyfill filtering to capture the iron before it accumulates to where it stains the pool.
