Few questions regarding Capacitors

I have a capacitor in my pool pump Im being told is bad and needs replacement. My questions are that my capacitor says 35+10uf but every pool place only has 35uf. No one seems to know what the +10 means and whether its important or not. Can someone please tell me what the +10 means and if its important? Also, it is not the +/- 6% either. Can someone also tell me if there is a difference between a air conditioner capacitor and pool motor capacitor? They look the same to me and everything that shows online for the 35+10 says air. Ill include a pic of my capacitor. Thank you in advance.

Les,

I suspect that it is actually two capacitors inside one can.. One cap is 35 uf and the other is 10 uf.

That said, all my experience is with non-pool related stuff..

Thanks,

Jim R.

It is a dual capacitor, which is common for HVAC where the compressor and the fan need a capacitor.

For pool pumps, it is unusual except for some two speed pump motors.

If your current capacitor uses all three terminal blocks, then you need a dual capacitor.

One is for high speed and one is for low speed.

High speed is usually HERM to Common and low speed is usually Fan to Common.

Is the pump a Hayward TriStar two speed pump?

Can you show the motor label?

You actually have three capacitors.

Does the pump start on High speed or low speed or neither?

What happens on power to the pump?
