Feeder hose vs. Leader hose

Is it okay to use a 10' feed hose as the leader or is it important to buy the much more expensive leader hose? What's the difference in the two hoses?
I'm in the process of overhauling my Polaris 280.

Start at the bottom of page 4 (link below) to properly size your hose. The feeder hose alone should reach the farthest point of the pool at the surface, since that's supposed to remain at the surface, and then the the leader house gives it enough length to reach the bottom.

The length is the critical determination to make your system effective without tangling the hose. Follow the recommendation in the manual. use swivels between the sections to reduce tangling.

Thanks, but I was not asking how to size the hose, I've read all those instructions:
I'm tryin to determine if the hose material is important. Amazon lists a 10' FEED hose section (D45) at $19.95 but a 10' LEADER hose is $32.99. Just trying to find out if there is a benefit to the higher priced hose.

My 280 is over 10 years old and my feed hose and lead hose is the same material. I remember replacing 1 hose some years back and just purchased the standard 10ft white hose.

You sure they are genuine Polaris parts?

There are lots of knockoffs on Amazon at different prices and quality.

Leader hose and feed hose are different material. They all end up a little "hard" after a while, but the leader hose (which is cut to the maximum depth of the pool before cutting any other hose parts) is a much softer hose than the rest of the ones that come with the Polaris when new.
