Fastest way to heat pool

I was thinking about what would be the fastest way to heat my pool with my gas heater. Should I heat up the spa first since it heats so quickly by re-circulating/heating the warm water and then once it's up to 100 degrees adjust the valves to normal so that it overflows into my pool? Or should I just keep the valves normal, where water is taken from the pool and returned to both spa and pool? Just a thought.
Thank You!

Doesn't matter. BTU's are the same no matter how they are mixed in the water. The same amount of heat (BTUs) get into the water no matter how you have the valves set.

The change in temperature (delta T) across your heat exhanger will be the greatest if you have higher flow rates of water (fire on one side, water on the other). Remove the eyeball and reduce all restrictions to get the fastest flow through the heater and that will increase the efficiency and heating rate of your heat exchanger by maximizing delta T. Making sure your filter doesn't need cleaning or backwashing will also increase these flow rates. You want to remove all the heat that you can that is provided by the fire. You are trying to cool the fire (simplistic I know, but helps in the analogy)
