Excited to build new pool in Tucson

Hello! New member here on the forum. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for many years, I am thrilled to have moved to Tucson where a swimming pool makes perfect sense. We are ready to get a new in-ground pool underway, our first :D. I have questions that are specific to the factors of southern Arizona. For instance, does a salt water system work better here than the chlorine alternative? Will using monsoon rainwater from catchment tanks be a good solution for topping off (evaporation is a real issue here) or will balancing the PH be too difficult? How often should we use a bubble cover during the hottest part of the swim season? The cover helps with evaporation and chemical use, but can surely be a hassle if swimming every day, and may raise the water temp too much. The pool builders I've asked don't seem to have real answers. I've searched the forum over time but am not finding a lot of place-specific advice...my corner of the world is very different than most. Please chime in with your wisdom, Tucson pool owners!

Blu,

Welcome to TFP... A Great resource for all pool builders whether from the Pacific Northwest or Arizona... :shark:

I'm sure you know, but just to make sure... A Saltwater pool is a Chlorine pool. It just makes its own chlorine by using saltwater and electricity...

Many of our Arizona members have saltwater pools and love them..

I'll let the gang from AZ answer your specific questions... :gone:

Thanks,

Jim R.

 Welcome to TFP!

SWG makes the maintenance easier and will run all year.

Using rain water would certainly slow the CH rise from evaporation. It is easy to adjust pH if required.

You will not want the cover in the summer as the water will already be warm enough.
