From this site I find that the outer diameter of a 1.5in PVC is almost 2in (1.90in). Can I just slip a 2inch backwash hose around a 1.5 pipe with a clamp on it and call it a day? I'm about to glue a barbed hose slip, using a coupler, to a 1.5in PVC backwash pipe, which is way more work then just a hose clamp.

That should work fine, but if you want to get fancy check out what I did.

Cool!
That coupler is only $20 on amazon, and it looks like way less of a PITA to remove than what I have now...

Even better, if you buy the hose from Grainger, it comes with that fitting! You are brilliant. WP37949 Water Discharge Hose - Grainger Industrial Supply

It's a trash pump discharge hose. The hose was about $25 on Amazon and the banjo cam lock fitting another $10.
