Draining pool without flooding the neighbors yard

This weekend I promised to help my mother in law take down her above ground pool. I was thinking, rather than pumping or siphoning the water out and letting it seep into the neighbors yard, I could slice the bottom of the liner and let it seep into the ground directly under the base.

The dirt is probably pretty packed and it may take a long time to drain but my real concern is I'm not thinking of some way this could fail and create more of a problem than an angry neighbor.

Has anyone drained a pool in this way or can think of a reason not to try it?

The only thing is while you may make a small hole the pressure from the water could further rip the liner turning a small leak into a big one fast. Pumping while slow and tedious is the safe route.

Can you get hoses from a sump pump to the street, or to a sewer clean out port?

Yes! Working with mother-in-laws is tricky business ... turned out she did some research and made the decision for me. So we dropped in a sump pump and ran a 150' hose to the street. That freed up the weekend for me to work on my pool
