Doheny's pump parts?

Hi there!

I've inherited an in ground pool of unknown age when I bought my house last fall. Trying to get the equipment up to good working order. I opened the sand filter and boy did it stink, and it seemed like sand level was low. I got the correct amount of sand and dumped the dirty smelly mess out. Now the filter and multi port valve seem to be OK, just a small drip leak on one of the fittings.

The pump on the other hand, leaks a lot more. There is always water on the pad, I can see it coming from the between the motor and pump. I found the motor manual and it lists all the parts. Great, Off to the interwebs, but none of the part numbers appear in searches.

I called Doheny's. The customer rep, finally was trying to order these parts, but since I did not it purchase the pump, and presumably the pump is not under warranty, she is unable to order parts. Advises pumps only last 2 or 3 years and it needs replacement. What? Why have a parts list if the pump cannot be serviced?

More searching the interwebs, seems like this pump is a Chinese made, that is re-branded by anyone. Searching, I cannot find any service parts other than strainer basket and top cover.

Anyone have a recommendation on obtaining parts? The pump model is Doheny's 6589, manufacturer part number 72747, 1.5 HP pump. Link to the manual

Also after running for 2 hours, the motor is pretty hot, so hot I cannot touch it for more than 2 seconds.

So, is it worth finding parts to service the leaking or replace it?

I would replace the pump. We had a Doheny 1.5 hp pump and our electric bill was crazy and we barely ran the pump but a couple hours a day. Now we have a variable speed pump and run it 15 hours a day and only costs $18 a month to run. I have our old Doheny pump if you want it and want to drive down to central PA.
