Does "Old" Chlorine Lose It's "Potency"

I had 5gal of chlorine (Walmart Brand) left over from last year, so I was using that up (and adjusting my amount to add accordingly). Have been checking roughly an hour after each addition to make sure I achieved my target. My question is, does it not only lose it's "concentration" level with age, but does it lose it's effectivness at sanitizing my pool also ? All numbers are perfect, except, I'm going through 3/4gal per day!!! I know the % dropped alot, but does it not work because of it's age? The pool is crystal clear, and there is no overnight loss, Just thought if I added enough extra to compensate for the loss in %, it would be ok!!!

I guess I'm asking, is concentration level (i.e. 8.25; 10; or 12.5) proportional to how effective it is? (I figured my "old" chlorine to be about 6)

P.S. Overnight loss is 0, and CC is below .5

Thanks to all !!!

Ahhhhhh ... OK ... so NOT only am I going to "use" more, But I am going to lose more to keep my pool TFP during the day! just wasn't sure if I was missing something. Last gallon will be gone today. FRESH stuff here on out. LOVE my TFP pool and the help and guidance I get from this community. :D

An example:
If you bought 8.25% bleach and left it in storage for 6 months, it will degrade in strength. Lets say it is now 6%. When you add that bleach to the pool, it will raise the chlorine just like any other 6% bleach would. Once it is in the water though, you don't know any difference. You will not use/loose any more or less FC during the day.

AWESOME mknauss !!! I copied and pasted, to a file, the chart shown in post #8. It is a very good starting point to use up left over chlorine and have a baseline at which to plug-in to pool math to figure out how much to add. Thanks again for pointing m there :)
