Does Chlorine Sink?

Hi All, I have been using my filter 24/7 because I had a persistent yellow/sandy/mustard deposit that continued to reappear on the seams of the pool each night.
I recently decided to cut down the run time to 10 hours initially because I felt I was paying for no improvement.
What happened next seemed bizarre - the deposit disappeared?
I then began thinking if the SG of the liquid chlorine is heavier than water - does the Chlorine sink to the bottom when the filter is not running and therefore intensify and attack those hard to reach deep seams?
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Is this even feasible?
Regards to all
Peter

Chlorine is heavier than water and will sink to the bottom if you don’t slowly pour it into a return jet stream or brush the bottom after you add it. Once it is mixed in, it does not come out of suspension. Do you have bottom drains in your pool? If you do, are they turn off or on?

Yes I have a bottom drain which is open. It is not the pouring of the Chlorine it is when the Chlorine is already mixed, as far as I know most liquids will separate if there is a significant difference in specific gravity, I seem to remember acid purchased in solution being more concentrated at the bottom of the bottle when left to stand. It was just an observation which seemed odd.
Thanks for the input
Peter

Bleach in the bottle is mostly water (94% to 87.5% depending on the strength you buy). If there was an issue with separation, there would be “shake well before use” on the label. Once you mix your daily dose in, unless you never run your filter system, I would think that likelyhood of separation in your pool highly unlikely. If your filter system is on a timer, it takes a very long time for the circulation currents to “stop”. As a matter of fact, I doubt that it ever stops given the circulation setup by wind, temperature, etc. Other chemicals that are added to pools have a much larger specific gravity difference than that of bleach. Bleach is 1.2, cya is 2.5. Given those two, the cya would separate out before the bleach would.

“Does chlorine sink?”

Once while walking through town, I saw a sign advertising “Cast Iron Sinks.”

I said to my friend, “Everyone knows that.”

Thanks, I’ll be in town all week.
