Different sand sizes

Hi, I'm gather the material to swap out the sand on my Pentair Tritton II TR 140 sand filter. Went to one local hardware store last night and got the last seven bags of pool sand they had. Today I went by a different chain and bought what they had. So now I have almost enough.

When I got the new sand home and compared it to what I bought last night, there is a noticeable difference and grain size. The HTH branded sand looks much coarser. I'm wondering if I should take it back or just use a few bags at the bottom. Any suggestions comments?

Hard to tell without seeing it in person... or without using actual sizing screens to compare. Most any product labeled as pool sand should be what's known as #20 pool sand, designating that is the proper size and thoroughly washed of fines. If they are both labeled as pool sand, you should be fine using both of them. I used HTH several years a go when I replaced my filter. No issues. Have not used the All-Star but have seen it at HD. Maybe others can comment on that brand...
