Diatomaceous Earth in filter

I am in a slam currently and it's been 10 days. I can see the bottom now and wanted to give my pool an added help for the cloud. I am having a hard time finding ditomaceous early. I have food grade at home but didn't think that was for pools. I didn't find crawling insect killer containing diatomaceous earth by Garden safe and wondered if that was ok?

No. Garden DE and kitchen DE are not the same as pool DE. One is heat treated, I forget which.

The smallest package of DE you'll find for a pool will be a lifetime supply. See if any neighbors have a DE filter and will let you beg a few cups. There's also cellulose filter media, which is pricier than DE but works the same but it does come in smaller bags. It has the advantage of being biodegradable if you backwash out into the yard somewhere.

I ended up driving across town to purchase pool de. We are in the country not many neighbors and none have pools. You are right about the lifetime supply. The box is 24LBS lol. And for some reason it was clearances out and I picked it up for $6! Thanks for the reply. I added it to the pool a few hours ago. Hope it helps clear the last of the cloud.

Don't mean to high jack but I have a question. I have a sand filter and I wanted to add some DE through the skimmer. So every time I back wash I need to add more DE? If so how do I know how much to add?
