Good evening. This morning, around 2AM a buck decided to take a swim in my pool. Managed to get him out. He had made his way down to the shallow end. My guess is he was about 3 or 4 years old. Any suggestions on temporary repairs?IMG_5163.jpeg

Oh man that SUCKS !!! Be glad it wasn't a vinyl pool or you'd be replacing the liner too.

There's not much you can do but replace the cover. If little kids aren't a concern, you could tarp it for now after removing the cover.

Don’t these kinds of covers have guarantees?
They have weight guarantees. (Or implied at least) Sharp hooves/claws will do what they do. My 70 lb Basset was ripping mine and he was just exploring, not digging in scared.

That cover is not repairable. You can see where the stitching holding the straps to the cover have ripped off. At some 20 years old areas of the cover was rotting and it would not hold its designed weight as it would when new.

A video would have made for some interesting Thanksgiving conversation!
Although so does just the mangled cover itself!

I think I’ll just tarp it for now. We are planning on a higher fence in the spring. Would hate to buy a new one and have it happen again. No idea how old the cover is, it came with the house about 13 years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s over 20 years old.
I had an incident several years ago where a herd of deer ran across my old cover. I repaired the cover, but after buying a new one two years later, started putting up a makeshift fence around the pool each year after closing. By now the population of deer in my neighborhood has shrinked significantly, so I don't do this anymore.
