Deck Stain in Pool

So we were staining our deck this morning with help from my teenage nephew. Well while we were cleaning the paint sprayer he for some god awful reason aimed at the pool and pulled the trigger. He thought since it was unplugged, it would not spray. The stairs were covered and took an hour to scrub off, and I saw a small amount of stain go into the water. I didn’t think much of it and just put in som extra chlorine until later this evening a saw a red line on the water line stained along the pool. It scrubs off but I fear I’m just recycling it back into the water. Idk if the chlorine and pump will help clean it out? If there is anything else I can or should do or anything I should be concerned with?

i have 15x30, 18,000 gal oval with a D.E filter.

Thanks!

What kind of stain was it? Oil or water based.

If oilbased use oil absorbant pads to floating near/ in the skimmer to get it out of the water. Paper towels may work in a pinch.
