Deck-O-Seal Color When "Wet"

Please, please, please tell me that Deck-O-Seal is much darker before it cures. The builder sent his guy out to do the mastic between the coping on the deck today. When I came out to look after work it looks black. Not gray ... black. They never asked me to specify a color for the mastic, and they never specified one either. Frankly, it never occurred to me that anybody might use anything other than white for white coping with white grout. I'm really praying this stuff will turn color or something. It's been about 5 hours and it's still black.

You sure they used the Deck-O-Seal product? Black would be a special order color.

It can be scraped out and redone.

The builder said they use Deck-O-Seal, but I have no way of verifying.

I know it can be redone, but I don't want to add that headache to my existing headaches with this builder. I just want it to be done. I don't want to spend the next 2 years having a legal battle with the pool builder over their screwups.

It is not going to change color.

Good luck.

I discovered they used some stuff called PS3 Perfect Seal. I found their discarded packaging in my garbage can. It's supposed to be a similar product, but I cannot find much information about it. The packing prominently features "whitecap.com" where it is represented as Deck-O-Seal.

I cannot find any more information about it to confirm that it's repackaged Deck-O-Seal or if it's some knockoff. The alleged manufacturer number only returns that whitecap.com page from a Google search.

W. R. Meadows is the correct manufacturer. Your issue is with the color used.

OK. Sorry it took so long to get back and update. The finally replaced the Deck-O-Seal with white. That part looks much better, but now my coping looks pretty bad. It's got some kind of residue on it that looks greasy and like it spread out from the mastic. It doesn't come off with washing or scrubbing. I really, really, really, don't want this to be another problem to have to confront the builder with. If there's any way I can clean it off without ruining the coping or the mastic I would love to know.
