Hi,

I have a spot that comes up out of the ground as copper and then converts over to PVC. Yesterday I pulled it apart put pipe dope only on it and turned it on. There were no immediate leaks but by the morning it was leaking again period

I normally don't heat my pool but for Memorial Day have had the heat cranked for a couple of days so I don't know if the heat is causing an extra issue that hasn't been a problem in the past period

I'm planning to redo it tomorrow but was curious if I should put some Teflon tape then piped up and then tighten everything up.

Thanks

Rich

Hi the copper and the PVC are both threaded coppers female the PVC is male threaded. I wasn't using pipe glue but pipe dope. I am just curious if I should try Teflon tape as well as the pipe dope since they're dope alone didn't seal everything

Sorry I misunderstood your first post.

I have had good luck using teflon tape on everything 1" diameter and below and then good luck using pipe dope on everything bigger.

I have never mixed them.

I am not a fan of threaded fittings to begin with, so I try to avoid them whenever possible. I have a similar situation where my pipes are copper all the way to the pool pad. I converted them to pvc above the pad. I bought a compression fitting that is made for copper on one end and has a pvc fitting on the other end. It works great. No leaks!

Here's what it looks like.

The second one you can use with 2" pvc over the fitting, or 1.5" pvc inside the fitting.
